'BTB Buddies Pen-Pal Program' Rules

The following are the rules set out for the BTB Buddies Pen Pal Program that will help ensure a positive experience for our participating kids and their families. Parents/guardians will be asked to accept and acknowledge these rules when registering their child(ren) for the program.

  • The program is intended solely for the purposes of connecting the children in our police families and fostering a sense of community.

  • All participants will connect with their Buddy via snail mail only unless other arrangements are made between both sets of parents/guardians.

  • Parents/guardians are responsible for the nature of the content in their child’s letters.

  • We ask that participants do not include or engage in any of the following:

    • Bullying

    • Profane/inappropriate language

    • Any discussion of violence

    • Anything sexual

    • Discussion of abuse or addiction

    • Developmentally inappropriate content

    • Do not send gift cards, money or other valuables

  • We also ask that parents/guardians should be involved in the letter writing process, and should set clear content expectations before beginning the program. If you’d like to connect with your child’s Buddy’s parent - feel free to drop them your own note into their letter.

  • Included in your BTB Buddy Kit will be some tips and suggestions on ways to connect with your Buddy. These are only a suggestion but always a good starting point to get to know each other better.

  • Participants should take care to respond to their Buddy in a reasonable amount of time – no one wants to feel forgotten! Everyone gets busy but remember the quicker you send, the quicker you can receive!

  • Participation in the program is at-will. Any child in a match can opt out at any time, however, we suggest that participants commit to the program for a minimum of three months to allow the pen pal relationship time to develop.

Niagara Beyond the Blue is here to provide assistance during your pen pal experience. Please contact info@ Niagarabeyondtheblue.com with any questions or program feedback. We want to ensure that your child has a positive experience!
